Cardamom Powder, Seeds, Oil and Oleoresin: A Buyer’s Comparison
Cardamom has several commercial formats
Green cardamom can be traded as whole pods, seeds and ground powder, and specialist processors may offer oil or oleoresin. These formats serve different buyer needs. Decide whether you need a culinary spice, a ground ingredient or a concentrated ingredient for a defined formulation.
Whole pods and seeds
Whole pods may be assessed by size, colour, appearance, aroma, moisture and defects. Seeds may be specified separately where the buyer wants to avoid pod material. Confirm the grade, format, permitted defect limits and applicable testing.
Cardamom powder
Powder can simplify dosing for food manufacturers, bakeries and spice blenders. Specify mesh size, moisture, purity, aroma, packaging and shelf-life requirements. Discuss aroma protection and cross-contamination controls during processing.
Cardamom oil and oleoresin
Purchase concentrated ingredients against a technical specification, not just a product name. Ask for botanical identity, extraction method, composition or analytical parameters, Certificate of Analysis, storage requirements and suitability for the intended application. Confirm regulatory acceptability in the importing country.
