1121 Basmati Rice: Grain Length, Aroma and Export Grades Explained
1121 Basmati is associated with extra-long grain, but buyers should not assess an export offer by variety name alone. A useful purchase specification defines the grain and processing type, measurable quality limits, packing and inspection process for the actual lot.
Grain length and appearance
Buyers may specify average grain length or other grain measurements according to their market and product grade. Clarify whether the figure refers to raw or cooked grain and how it is measured. Appearance and elongation can vary with processing, storage and cooking conditions.
Aroma and cooking performance
Aroma and cooking results are influenced by the lot and how the rice is stored and prepared. If aroma, ageing or cooked-grain behaviour is important to your customers, make it part of the sample-approval process instead of relying on a general claim.
Steam, White Sella and Golden Sella
State the required processing type explicitly. Steam and Sella are not interchangeable labels; Sella is parboiled, and colour can vary by type. Confirm the processing, appearance and cooking result expected by your market.

Approve a representative sample
Ask for a sample and written specification tied to the offered lot. Agree how the goods will be inspected and how any deviation will be handled. Compare supplier quotations only when grades, packing and delivery terms are aligned.
