Bulk Pulses Supplier in India: What Importers Should Check Before Ordering

Choosing a bulk pulses supplier in India should start with product specifications, not just price. Importers, distributors, food manufacturers and wholesalers need a supplier that can repeat the same specification and support the shipment commercially.

1. Define the exact pulse and grade

“Dal” is not a sufficient purchase specification. State the pulse, processing form, grade, polishing requirement where relevant, moisture, purity, broken percentage and acceptable foreign matter.

2. Confirm packing and loadability

Bulk pulses may be supplied in 25 kg, 30 kg or 50 kg sacks depending on the product and destination. Ask for net weight, packaging material, liner requirement and estimated container load before comparing landed prices.

3. Ask for quality documents

Commercial buyers should agree the required tests before shipment. Depending on the product and destination, documentation may include a Certificate of Analysis, Certificate of Origin, phytosanitary certificate and fumigation documentation.

4. Check real supply capacity

A supplier should be able to explain current availability, monthly capacity, lead time, loading port and whether repeat supply can be supported.

5. Compare FOB and CIF correctly

Do not compare an FOB quotation from one supplier with a CIF quotation from another without normalising freight and destination costs. Ask suppliers to quote against the same port, packing and specification.
