How Custom Spice Blends Are Made: From Your Recipe to Your Branded Pack

Custom spice blends start with a clear product brief. Brands, distributors and food manufacturers should agree on the target flavour, ingredient list, specification, packaging and destination requirements before committing to production.

1. Prepare a recipe brief

Share the intended application, flavour profile, ingredient list or reference sample, target price range and any ingredients to exclude. Identify allergens and any claims or restrictions that affect formulation and labelling.

2. Agree the product specification

Specify ingredients and permitted tolerances, particle size, colour, aroma, moisture, quality checks and applicable testing. If the recipe is confidential, agree how it will be shared and used before sending sensitive details.

3. Test and approve samples

Evaluate samples in the intended recipe or production process. Record the approved version, preparation method and acceptance criteria. Agree how recipe changes, ingredient substitutions and batch variation will be communicated.

4. Plan branded packaging

Confirm pack size, material, seal type, artwork, label language, ingredient declarations, net weight, batch code and destination-market requirements. Review the final artwork carefully before production.

5. Confirm MOQ and lead time

Minimum quantities and lead times depend on the blend, ingredients, packaging and artwork readiness, testing and destination. Ask for the minimum per SKU, sample timeline, production schedule and expected dispatch window in writing.

6. Finalise shipment details

Specify quantity, destination, Incoterm, required tests and export documents. The applicable documents depend on the commodity and importing country. Keep the approved sample and specification for repeat orders.
