What Ships With Every Container: Indian Food Export Documentation

Documentation is part of the shipment

For an importer, the physical product is only one part of an international food shipment. The paperwork has to match the product, lot and destination requirements.

Certificate of Analysis

A COA records test results associated with a product or lot. The exact parameters depend on the commodity, specification and destination requirements. Buyers should agree in advance on which tests matter for their product.

Certificate of Origin

A certificate of origin establishes the country of origin of the goods. Importers may need it for customs, commercial or preferential-trade purposes depending on the destination and transaction.

Phytosanitary certificate

Plant-based products can be subject to phytosanitary requirements. Where certification is required, the exporter coordinates the appropriate inspection and certification process before shipment.

Fumigation documentation

Fumigation requirements vary by commodity, destination and shipping instructions. When required, the relevant certificate should correspond to the shipment.

Lot and traceability records

Good export documentation connects the shipment back to a defined lot or production cluster. This makes quality follow-up easier if a question arises after arrival.

Before your first container

  • Agree the product specification in writing.
  • Confirm required tests and COA parameters.
  • Confirm origin-document requirements.
  • Check whether phytosanitary certification applies.
  • Confirm fumigation requirements.
  • Agree lot identification and traceability expectations.
  • Clarify which documents are supplied before and after shipment.

Documentation is part of making a commercial shipment predictable. See D’Amalfi Global’s export guide, certifications and export supply pages.
